I’ve wanted a jazzmaster since high school. Back then it seemed like it was what everyone was playing. Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Jay Mascus, you name it. I had a simple black strat back then, but the jazzmaster was way out of reach for me.
I’ve nursed this desire since then, but never had the nerve or cash to buy one, until now.
I finally broke down and ordered a CIJ jazzmaster. I went with a japanese import b/c of the options they offer over the Fender USA models. Specifically the body match headstock, and the block inlay work. The fretboard binding is also really sick looking. I love how this guitar plays and feels. No regrets at all on this purchase.
Being a total gear freak I’m already plotting some modifications though, mainly new pickups. I’m thinking Seymour Duncan Antiquity 2′s or maybe some custom ones from Curtis Novak. Something more vintage sounding. I’m also going to swap the strings for flatwound, which is more ‘correct’ and will hopefully cut down on the bridge buzz that jazzmasters are notorious for.
